Brief About Dr. Dorcas Obiri-Yeboah

Dr. Dorcas Obiri-Yeboah has a medical degree (MBChB), MSc and PhD in Clinical Microbiology. She has had many relevant trainings and courses from recognized bodies including DAAD-German Academic Exchange Service, WHO, and others globally. Her research focuses on sexually transmitted infections, particularly HIV, hepatitis B virus (HBV) and human papillomavirus (HPV), with over 40 peer reviewed journal publications.

She is a senior lecturer in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, School of Medical Sciences, University of Cape Coast, Ghana. She lectures, supervises and mentors students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She has held many administrative positions including Coordinator for Clinical Training, Head of Department and currently the Dean, School of Nursing and Midwifery.

Dr. Obiri-Yeboah is a member of the National Paediatric HIV Acceleration Plan Task Team (Ghana) and the Guideline Development Group working on WHO Recommendations for initiation and frequency of screening of pre-cancer lesions in women with HIV. She is also an Advisory Board Member for the West African Network of Excellence for Tuberculosis, AIDS and Malaria (WANETAM).

She is a member of several professional organizations including the International AIDS Society (IAS), the International Papillomavirus Society, the Africa Society of Laboratory Medicine (ASLM) and the Organization of Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD). She is a reviewer for PLOS One, BMC Infectious Diseases, and BMJ Open, among others.
